Criminal Law Partners Join Firm: Meet New Leaders Jackson Freeman and Jim Coburn
RCR Lawyers is proud to announce the appointment of two highly respected legal professionals, Jackson Freeman and Jim Coburn, as Partners to lead the firm’s Criminal Law Practice Group. With this expansion, RCR Lawyers is enhancing its commitment to delivering accessible, expert legal support for clients facing criminal and domestic violence matters across Brisbane and Queensland.
A New Era for Criminal Law Partners in Brisbane
Jackson Freeman, a criminal law specialist with a client-first approach, joined RCR Lawyers as Partner in March 2025. Taking over a well-established and thriving practice from respected former Partner Tyronne Thomas, Jackson brings a unique perspective shaped by his Māori heritage, dual qualifications in law and media studies, and cross-jurisdictional experience in both New Zealand and Australia.
“I am honoured to step into this role and continue the legacy left by Tyronne,” Jackson said. “My goal is to grow the criminal law practice by providing clients with clear, strategic advice that’s easy to understand and free from unnecessary legal jargon.”
Jackson is passionate about making quality legal support more accessible, and is already making an impact across serious crime, domestic violence, and traffic-related matters.
Joining Jackson at the helm is Jim Coburn, an Accredited Criminal Law Specialist with more than 30 years of dedicated experience in the field. Jim has spent nearly four decades in legal practice, specialising in criminal law exclusively for the past 30 years. He is well-known across Queensland for his high-calibre representation and deep knowledge of the criminal justice system.
“Everyone deserves a fair go, and I’m passionate about delivering the highest standard of defence, no matter the complexity of the case,” said Jim. “I’m excited to partner with Jackson and contribute to a team that’s genuinely focused on achieving the best outcomes for our clients.”
Jim’s expertise spans the full spectrum of criminal law, from indictable offences such as murder and serious drug charges, to summary offences and confiscations proceedings. He is particularly passionate about mentoring emerging talent and helping shape the next generation of criminal lawyers in Brisbane.
