Former RCR Partner Peter Kuskie Appointed as Rockhampton Magistrate

Peter Kuskie Appointed as Rockhampton Magistrate

RCR Lawyers is proud to celebrate the appointment of former Partner Peter Kuskie as a Magistrate in the Rockhampton Magistrates Court, a milestone that reflects his outstanding career and dedication to justice in Queensland.

Peter officially commenced his appointment at the Rockhampton Courthouse on 6 June 2025 and will be formally welcomed – alongside four fellow appointees – at a ceremonial sitting of the Magistrates Court in Brisbane on 13 June 2025.

A Distinguished Legal Career Across Multiple Jurisdictions

Magistrate Kuskie brings an extensive legal background to the bench, shaped by nearly three decades of legal practice across Queensland. After being admitted as a solicitor to the Supreme Court of Queensland in 1995, Peter Kuskie built an impressive career in private practice, ultimately serving as a Partner at RCR Lawyers.

His practice experience spanned a wide array of legal areas, including:

  • Criminal Law

  • Family Law

  • Administrative Law

  • Property and Commercial Law

Peter’s commitment to justice also extended beyond his commercial work. He has acted pro bono for veterans, Indigenous Australians, and victims of domestic violence –further demonstrating his dedication to fairness, equity, and access to justice for all.

A Respected Colleague and Trusted Advocate

Greg Rostron, Managing Partner at RCR Lawyers, shared his admiration for Peter Kuskie’s appointment:

“The partners at RCR Lawyers are extremely proud that another of our peers has made it to the bench.
Whilst we will miss Peter’s banter and good humour around the office, we feel that he is incredibly well suited to the position of a Magistrate.
Peter is a well-rounded lawyer with experience in many commercial and criminal matters. He has great character and morals, and his sense of fairness will serve him well as a Magistrate. We wish Peter well.”

In late 2024, Peter Kuskie was recognised by the Queensland Law Society with a 25-year membership pin, acknowledging his longstanding contribution to the legal profession in Queensland.

A Continued Legacy of Excellence

Peter Kuskie is the second former RCR Partner to join the judiciary in recent years. In 2024, Tuskeen Jacobs, also a former Partner of the firm, was appointed as a Judge of the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia (Division 2), commencing at the Brisbane Registry in July 2024.

Their appointments are a testament to the calibre of lawyers developed at RCR Lawyers and our enduring commitment to integrity, legal excellence and service to the community.
