As we reflect on the past year, we’re proud to share some of the key developments within RCR Lawyers. From evolving legislation to industry trends, our team has been dedicated to staying at the forefront of legal excellence. Below, you’ll find highlights of how we’ve adapted and grown, ensuring we continue to provide the highest level of service to our clients.
FAMILY LAW
This year, RCR Lawyers saw the departure of Family Law Partner, Tuskeen Jacobs who was appointed as a Judge of the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia. Tuskeen had been with the firm for 13 years and was an integral part of the growth and culture of the firm and particularly for the Family Law team. Following Tuskeen’s appointment, we welcomed Alana Pointon as the Family Law Partner, with Alana having previously worked in the Family Law team at RCR. Alana looks forward to meeting our valued clients and referrers over the coming months. Getting straight down to business, Alana was instrumental in organising the firm’s mixed Touch Rugby League team – RCR’s Ruck n Rollers. Suffice to say the first season involved us working on our combinations… but we are hopeful for a strong season next year!
IMMIGRATION
Roxy Topham and the migration services practice at RCR Lawyers travelled to the United Kingdom on three separate occasions this year – including London, Dublin, Edinburgh and Glasgow – to provide immigration support to clients who are major players in the primary and allied health sectors.
Each trip was focused on providing ‘on-demand’ immigration advice in support of our clients’ overseas recruitment initiatives, to attract doctors, nurses, dental specialists and other allied health professionals to Australia. Given the critical skill shortages experienced in these sectors locally, there is a unique opportunity to collaborate with employers and recruiters as a value-added service to their talent attraction strategies, as questions and concerns about visas naturally arise from an Australian job offer. On each of our trips, the immigration team worked closely with our clients to offer tailored guidance to potential candidates in terms of their visa options, immigration strategies, eligibility requirements and timeframes.
In addition to facilitating immediate access to quality legal advice for our clients, each trip also provided an opportunity to build deeper connections with key decision-makers in their respective businesses. It was a real joy and privilege to forge relationships which offered more valuable insights into our clients’ commercial operations and, in turn, enabled us to pre-emptively identify potential opportunities and challenges posed by aa dynamic immigration landscape and impact on recruitment objectives.
Providing on-the-ground support to clients overseas reinforced the importance of collaboration and adaptability in the face of changing immigration laws and policy frameworks. It was a privilege to play a part in supporting a sector that is vital to the well-being of so many and to witness the resilience and dedication of healthcare professionals committed to making a difference in their communities. Roxy and the team look forward to continuing this work and strengthening the connections that help facilitate positive outcomes for our client, and create new opportunities for other practice groups at RCR Lawyers.
CRICKET SPONSORSHIP
For the last 5 years, RCR has sponsored the Goodwill Cup, a cricket match between the Queensland Police Services and an invitation team for the Institute for Australia India Engagement comprising a multicultural mix of players, both men and women. The IAIE team was fortunate to have board member Matthew Hayden open the batting. It was a very close game, but the IAIE team won.
The match is always a highlight of the year, with Queensland Minister for Sport, Racing and Olympics and Para-Olympics, Tim Mander presenting the trophy to the winning team and medals to players. Our partner Michael Sing who is also a board member of the IAIE was present and said ,”RCR is proud to be a sponsor of this event. The Goodwill cup is a terrific event that encourages a closer relationship between the wider and diverse multicultural community and our police services and a testament to the fact that sport brings people and cultures together.”
