Roxy specialises in administrative law, having practised solely in migration since being admitted as a solicitor in 2009. She brings unique experience to her clients, having worked in both public and private sectors, and practicing immigration law in every stage of the visa process.
Roxy commenced her career at Fragomen, the world’s largest corporate migration firm, where she was one of only five practitioners in Australia who pioneered labour agreement negotiations with the Commonwealth on behalf of clients in the fast-food and on-hire industries. Roxy also worked with international gas and construction companies to source overseas workers during the Australian gas infrastructure boom and participated in several task forces to Christmas Island and detention centres around Australia to assist asylum seekers with their protection claims under the federal government’s Immigration Advice and Application Assistance Scheme (IAAAS).
In 2013, Roxy was recruited to support the growth of MinterEllison’s migration practice. She focused primarily on employer-sponsored and skilled migration, but also assisted individuals in proceedings before the Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT). A key component of Roxy’s practice was legal compliance, and she enjoyed assisting organisations with a foreign workforce to identify and implement preventative and mitigation strategies to manage risk and compliance issues arising from Australia’s dynamic immigration laws and government policy frameworks. She also enjoyed delivering visa planning and management strategies to Australian and international companies, across a diverse range of industries.
In 2018, Roxy pursued an opportunity at the Immigration Assessment Authority (IAA) (independent authority within the AAT) as a Reviewer, conducting merits review of decisions to refuse to grant a protection visa to fast-track applicants. She returned to MinterEllison’s government litigation team the following year to manage the judicial review practice in Brisbane, and to provide advice and solicitor advocacy to the Department’s legal division. Having represented the Minister in court proceedings before the FCCA, including appeals before the FCA and HCA, Roxy realised her passion for immigration lies on the applicant’s side. She briefly left private practice to start her own firm but returned to RCR Lawyers as Special Counsel.
