Only 4 weeks jail for multiple counts of production of methamphetamine

On 6 January 2016, our client was intercepted by police in a car. Our client fled on foot. A search of the revealed glassware, a PH meter, containers, water pumps, hoses, methamphetamine, MSM and other utensils indicative of production of methamphetamine.

In September 2016, a search warrant was executed on a property our client had been staying at, and further glassware and other material was located, also indicative of producing methamphetamine.

Our client was subject to a further search warrant in October 2017, whereupon police found a further clandestine laboratory set up. Our client was charged and remanded in custody.

On 10 November 2017, Alan Phillips of our office applied for Supreme Court bail for our client. He was granted bail with conditions.

The DPP indicted our client on 3 counts of production of methamphetamine. After reviewing the brief, Alan Phillips provided a submission to the DPP, which resulted in one of the production counts being discontinued.

Our client pleaded guilty to two counts of production of methamphetamine, and received a sentence which did not require him to return to actual custody.

Given the multiple counts of production and the repeated offending, this was an excellent result for our client.

Production of methamphetamine carries a maximum penalty of 20 years imprisonment.
